Economics, Business Studies and ICT Team
Team Overview
The EBIT team consists of the Business and Information Technology areas of the school curriculum which are delivered by a team of 9 teaching staff and a Learning Manager. The EBIT team are committed to raising the standards of teaching in the classroom and examination results.
The team has access to 10 ICT suites and 2 standard classrooms. The department has close links with local businesses to support and enhance the delivery of lessons.
All subjects are taught in mixed ability classes at KS4 and 5, with ICT a core subject in KS3 and 4.
Key Stage 3
ICT is a core subject and students receive 1 hour per week in Year 7 following the National Framework and 2 hours per week in Years 8 and 9, in which they develop their learning and work towards achieving an OCR National First Award. The units of work covered in Years 8 and 9 are ICT in Business, Desktop Publishing and Creating Computer Graphics.
Key Stage 4
Business Studies is taught as both GCSE and BTEC qualifications. The students are taught in mixed ability option groups with each group receiving 6 hours of lessons per fortnight in Year 11. From this academic year, Year 10 students receive 5 hours per fortnight if they have opted to follow either the GCSE or Level 2 BTEC options. Lessons are delivered in standard classrooms and ICT suites as appropriate.
At Key Stage 4, ICT is both a core and option subject, whereby every student receives a core provision of ICT comprising 2 hours per week developing their understanding from KS3, and they can also opt to study ICT following one of two options – Multimedia or Systems. These options provide the opportunities for students to focus on an area of ICT that interests them to enable specific skill development and understanding.
Key Stage 5
We offer A Level Economics and BTEC Level 3 Business.Students will receive 8 hours per fortnight for Level 3 BTEC and 10 hours per fortnight for Economics.
In ICT, students can opt to study the OCR Nationals Level 3 qualification which leads on from the Level 2 qualification studied in KS3 and 4. Students are able to develop their understanding and capabilities across a range of topics over this two year qualification, including web authoring and problem solving.
