Maths is taught in ability sets for Years 7 to 11.

Key Stage 3

We follow the Secondary National Strategy for Key Stage 3. They study work based on Using and Applying Mathematics, Number, Algebra, Handling Data, Shape, Space and Measure. This is designed to allow students to pick up all the necessary skills to move them into their GCSE programe in Year 9.  Throughout the year students are regularly assessed using exam style questions and Assessing Pupil Progress frameworks.  There is a formal exam at the end of each year to fully assess progress made. We also enter a large number of students for the UK Secondary Maths Challenge.

Key Stage 4

The majority of students follow the Edexcel Linear GCSE course, with current Year 9 starting the new specification.    Throughout the course students are regularly assessed using exam style questions with a formal exam at the end of each year to assess progress made.

Key Stage 5

We follow the OCR MEI A2 level course. A2 level Maths is a popular course with three sets in Year 12 as well as Further Maths. All A2 level classes have five periods of taught lessons, which are shared between two members of staff and one dedicated Maths ‘free’.
