Today is Takeover Day! We have taken over the Head’s Blog! This is Mia Spink and Hannah Sharpe from Year 7 and Hifzah Mahmood from Year 10.
Takeover Day is organised by Children’s Commissioners and gives children and young people the chance to work with adults for the day and be involved in decision-making.
Our day started visiting different lesson that had been taken over by students. In the English Department we saw Rose Dawson teach spelling strategies to Miss Welsh’s class and in Drama Megan Harrison and Charlotte Adair helped Miss Heath teach Year 9 about spontaneous improvisation in musical theatres, melodrama and soaps. Mr Billington’s Year 9 Geography lesson was taken over by two students, Joanna Barnett and Hannah Waite who conducted an end of topic revision lesson on earthquakes and volcanoes. It was fantastic work.

Remembrance Day
At 11am the school held a two minute silence for Remembrance Day. During the memorial, representatives from each student house body laid poppy wreaths at the foot of the tree used to recognise those who have given their life for our country. Representatives included Zara Akhtar, Nathan Curtis, Polly Orton and Tom Bleasby. The ceremony was joined by 6th Formers Luke Bretton, Charley Ashe, James Saunders and Oliver Newbould, all of whom participate in local cadet and youth armed forces groups.
The school continued to be taken over after break…
In the Inclusion Centre Rachel Waite Hudson, Jade Wilson and Corey Neale taught an anti- bullying workshop, in the Clockworks unit Neeve Lomas was helping Miss Firth working with a new student completing assessments.
In P.E. a Year 10 dodgeball lesson was in taught by Gemma Armitage and in Design and Technology Harry Pennock taught Year 7 students how to produce table tennis bats, with Erin Taylor setting the class their homework for Miss Taylor.
There were 250 students involved in today’s takeover day events, teaching and working with staff. It has been a huge success. It has been recorded by our School Report Team who have already been mentioned on the BBC School Report twitter feed.
