Merry Christmas everybody!
YEAR 8 ENGINEERS
The Boston Spa Year 8 girls Engineering Club have been working hard this term to complete their Christmas project. The girls have been working with wood to create slot jointed jewellery trees, painted and finished as presents for Christmas. With this project complete, we are looking forward to the next project that the girls will tackle under the excellent leadership of Miss Taylor in 2012.
CHRISTAMS CONCERT
I really enjoyed the Christmas Concert on Tuesday evening. Mrs Williams and Mrs Mawtus did a great job. I am always amazed by the skills of our young people, and they were all good, however a special mention is due to those brave enough and talented enough to sing solos; congratulations to Finola Daley-Dee, Tom Bleasby and Lauryn Mellor.
FRIENDS OF BOSTON SPA
The Christmas Concert was the last event for our old hall curtains. We were delighted the next day to hang the new ones, which are a gift from the Friends of Boston Spa School. I am really grateful for the support the Friends give us in a whole range of ways and the curtains are just the latest example of their generosity towards us.
The Friends of Boston Spa are always glad to see new members, so if you are interested please contact Dianne McElwee via email on dianne.mcelwee@zanmail.co.uk
CHRISTMAS LUNCHES
Mrs Brown and her team served three days of Christmas lunches this week, all up to the usual high standard of her catering. We are served well by the kitchen team; the quality of food on offer is really high, as well as healthy.
Although the lunches were great, perhaps the lunchtime highlight of my week was on Thursday in the Year 11 Diner, where they burst into Christmas community singing; they were remarkably good, although one or two of the ‘big’ notes in ‘All I want for Christmas is You’ were a bit of a challenge.
TECHNOLOGY
I was visited this week by Chris Hepworth in Year 8, who wanted to show me a DT project he had made of a tilting mirror based on the school logo. A fantastic piece of work, now proudly placed among the trophies in my office.
SIXTH FORM AWARDS EVENING
It was lovely to welcome back so many of last year’s Year 13 for the Sixth Form Awards Evening. There is so much to praise in these young people and we are so proud of them.
We were glad to welcome guests, including Mr Steve Hall and Mr Chris Corkhill, our Chair and Vice Chair of Governors, Mr Alec Shelbrook MP, and Miss Carla Cantrill and Mr Mick Ferguson from Leeds United.
The evening was hosted, very professionally by Megan Turner and Alex Preston, with speeches from Alec Shelbrook and David Joyce (representing last year’s Year 13), and included music performances by the Sixth Form band, the Gonzos, and Dhanraj Ghature and Sandeep Singh on the dhol drums.
I am very grateful to all who supported the evening.
A full list of awards and prize winners is here and Alec Shelbrook’s speech can be read here.
HAVE A LOVELY CHRISTMAS...
Thank you for your support for our school, and I wish you all a safe and happy Christmas, and every possible blessing for the New Year.
