We try to ensure that our offer always meets the needs of young people, the expectations of universities, colleges and employers, and responds to Government legislation and advice to schools.
We have a flexible curriculum offer which is reviewed annually. We will provide all families with full details of the options subjects available to all students as part of our options process. To review our 2019 options booklet click here.
Students at Boston Spa Academy follow a broad and balanced curriculum. Our curriculum has been designed to ensure that all students develop the knowledge and skills they need for further study and employment, and to foster a curiosity and love of learning that will stay with them for life. The curriculum in every subject is mapped and carefully sequenced across 5 years, ensuring that new knowledge and skills build on what has been taught before.
The Key Stage Three curriculum ensures all pupils have a strong foundation on which to build their studies at GCSE and Post 16. Students study the full range of subjects. The curriculum comprises: English, mathematics, science, history, geography, religious studies, French, PE, music, drama, design technology (including food and textiles), art and computing.
Students make their GCSE option choices in Year 8. They all study English Language, English Literature, science, mathematics and core PE. In addition they choose four options from a range of subjects comprising GCSEs and vocational qualifications. All students must study either history or geography at GCSE and they are very much encouraged to pursue the study of French or Spanish (or both) at GCSE.
