We are very excited to announce that, in response to the Minister’s decision to grant our academy order, we are bringing Elliott Hudson College to Boston Spa, and re-launching our sixth form as ‘Elliott Hudson College at Boston Spa Academy’ for 2019.

Throughout the last 18 months a central strand of the shared vision of Governors and The Gorse Academies Trust (TGAT) Board was to transform post 16 education. We are delighted that the launch of Elliott Hudson College at Boston Spa Academy not only accelerates this strategic plan but will also bring new opportunity for those Key Stage 4 pupils across the locality who have just completed their GCSEs.

Our current sixth form at Boston Spa is very high performing and we believe that bringing the two organisations together will establish a formidable partnership.

TGAT opened Elliott Hudson College as a sixth form provider at the White Rose Office Park, Leeds in September 2016. It has already established itself as the 4th highest performing sixth form college in England, with Ofsted grading the college as ‘Outstanding’ in all areas in 2018.

It can only be exciting when two highly successful organisations share core values are come together to break new ground.

The most recent government performance tables show that Elliott Hudson College have a Level 3 Value Added score of 0.29. At Boston Spa Academy we have a Value Added of 0.21, which already places us in the top 15% of sixth forms in the country. The local data looks like this:

Alongside our Level 3 Value Added, Boston Spa students also achieved:

10% of all grades at A*

27% of all grades at A* or A

55% of all grades at A* to B

4 Oxbridge places

96% of students gained the university of their choice

Over half of university places were to Russell Group providers

The coming academic year will see the establishment of a transitional period within which all key values, expectations and operational procedures will be developed, but we will also benefit from a £350,000 capital investment from TGAT in phase 1. This will be used to upgrade existing Sixth Form facilities this autumn, including remodelling learning spaces and transforming the ICT infrastructure. Larger sums will be released for phases 2 (in 2019) with phase 3 to follow.

For September 2018/2019 our option blocks are as follows, although, as with every year, these will be very different in 2019/20

Students will not move between the two sites for their learning; those enrolled at Elliott Hudson College at Boston Spa will complete all of their studies here in Boston Spa.

Both Boston Spa Academy and Elliott Hudson College share the conviction that there are no shortcuts or easy fixes; we know that with hard work, a supportive culture and great teaching, all students can succeed. It is these foundations that will underpin our work and allow students to achieve academic qualifications that create great opportunities in world class universities and careers of choice and significance.
